As a partner at a venture capital firm, I thrive on the excitement of discovering transformative ideas and building meaningful relationships with like-minded investors. Raising capital for our latest fund – Fund III – was a challenge that pushed us to sharpen our skills in storytelling and connection-building, especially when targeting institutions and family offices.

Fundraising isn’t just about presenting numbers or projections; it’s about creating resonance — a spark that compels someone to lean in, invest their time, and ultimately, their capital. But how do you spark that connection when you’re in a room full of strangers at a wealth management summit or a family office gathering?

The Pressure to Be Prepared

The stakes at these events are high. We typically know who might attend — the names of potential LPs, decision-makers, and key influencers — but turning awareness into familiarity is an entirely different challenge. We wanted to make every five-minute conversation meaningful: engaging enough to stand out amidst a blur of pitches, yet personal enough to resonate.

Before each summit, team members spent hours poring over LinkedIn profiles, tracking down articles, press mentions, or interviews. As valuable as these preparations were, the manual process quickly became overwhelming, especially when we faced a long list of attendees.
